What is the manufacturer/model of your guitar?
Gibson SG
Is the guitar electric or acoustic (or both)?
Electric
How much did you pay for the guitar? New or used?
$2000 (New Zealand dollars). Used.
Is the guitar easy and comfortable to play?
Incredibly comfortable, light enough to play for hours on end, heavy enough not to feel frail. Weight distribution is slightly towards the headstock, which I prefer, but the bias is nowhere near that of a Strat or Les Paul (which are very tail-heavy). Neck profile is perfect for me.
Guitar tone.
2 humbuckers, 2 volume, 2 tone pots. I loved this setup so much I changed my '96 strat to this set up as well! The pick ups, while complimenting each other very nicely, let you get pretty much whatever tone you want, although the overall tone is on the thinner side, and quite bright (again, which I prefer), due to the thin mahogany body. This makes it perfect for cutting lead work above another, thicker sounding guitar guitar, across all ranges of rock and blues.
Guitar build quality.
Hell, it's Gibson! 95% of the would purchased for building guitars gets rejected, then resold to firms like Fender and Gretsch. So yeah, excellent build quality. Durabilty? Well, I wouldn't try and take dry wall out with it, but it's yet to fail on me. The tuners are much more resistant to going out of tune than my other guitars, but a lot of people seem to replace the tuners with Gotoh ones.
Advice
- Again, some people change the tuners for Gotoh ones, or change the pickups for P-90s, but I think this is unnecessary. Perhaps these people do it just for differentiating their gat from stock
