$499 USDDescription of DiPinto Galaxie4 "Los Straitjackets" Model:
This is the 4 pickup, "Los Straitjackets" model Galaxie4 electric. Each pickup has an on/off "red rocker" switch, and there is a master Tone plus one master Volume control for the guitar. Slightly Jazzmaster shaped body although with a nice comfort contour. Body wood is poplar, with satin finished maple neck and rosewood fingerboard with dot markers. Has a great vibrato that does not cause the guitar to go out of tune.DiPinto Galaxie4 "Los Straitjackets" Model Tone Rating:
8/10Comments about DiPinto Galaxie4 "Los Straitjackets" Model Tone:
Extremely versatile tones can be achieved by mixing and matching the four DiPinto pickups on or off. Each pickup is single coil so I would not recommend this for heavy metal or thrash styles where heavy distortion or saturated humbucker punch is needed. But for Jazz, Alternative, Emo or Blues, this guitar has a nice, bell-like sound with good tonal range and a good amount of output. I use a matched pair of Marshall Plexi 100's with this guitar which is great for surf and blues, and cuts through about anything.DiPinto Galaxie4 "Los Straitjackets" Model Quality Rating:
9/10Comments about DiPinto Galaxie4 "Los Straitjackets" Model Quality:
The finish is a crazy (in a good way) silver metalflake with clearcoat, flawlessly applied. Neck has a fantastic tight fit in with the neck pocket. Havent owned it long enough to know if it will have problems, but my guitar tech has been over this instrument and it passed with flying colors. Fretboard is wide and flat, edges of frets are dressed beautifully with no sharp edges. I would give this instrument a '10' on Quality if the factory had gone the extra step to polish the frets themselves so they did not have that slightly grainy feel new frets tend to have, before being broken in by playing.DiPinto Galaxie4 "Los Straitjackets" Model Overall Rating:
9/10DiPinto Galaxie4 "Los Straitjackets" Model Pros:
Tremendous value for the money, a welcome change and much better dollar for dollar value than some of the overpriced junk that some of the big name makers are putting out (I have several). I am in process of buying a second Dipinto because of the quality for the money. I am hesitant to compare this to my Fender instruments because visually, tonally and any other way, DiPinto is entirely a new approach. Got this one from a large music store in Philadelphia whose sales staff was The Best, and beat other store prices.DiPinto Galaxie4 "Los Straitjackets" Model Cons:
no cons about the guitar itself. This is one beautifully crafted instrument that nails a lot of great tones, stays in tune and looks like nothing else out there. (Thank you Chris DiPinto). The quality and unique-ness shines. Only real con is the customer service post-sale where I bought it which was frustrating due to some sort of warehouse move where I kept getting conflicting stories on what the status of the shipment and when delivery was supposed to happen. This does not diminish from the guitar itself however.Submitted by: Tim Comella
