by Coldplay
Although sometimes touted as a kindler, gentler Radiohead, UK pop rockers Coldplay prove the inaccuracies of this label via their 2002 release A Rush of Blood to the Head. Whereas Radiohead's constantly evolving music reflects a certain restlessness, Coldplay's A Rush of Blood to the Head feels comfortable, and not altogether different than the group's 2000 release Parachutes. Which isn't to take anything away from the actual music itself. A Rush of Blood to the Head contains some great music - like the pounding opening track Politik, and others like Clocks and Daylight, in which an incessant, understated angst slowly builds. In My Place feels very much like the Rush of Blood to the Head follow up to the Parachutes mega-hit Yellow. And The Scientist is a pretty, if not particularly engaging ballad that nicely showcases singer Chris Martin's trademark falsetto. If you were a fan of Parachutes, and would love to hear another album of similar sounding material, then A Rush of Blood to the Head will be right up your alley. For those of you hoping that Coldplay would be making a significant contribution to the evolution of the UK pop sound, it looks as though you may be out of luck. Track Listing (with tab and lyrics)
