On October 3, 2000, Radiohead released the much anticipated Kid A, the band's fourth full-length album on a major label. Their previous effort, 1997's OK Computer had been hailed by many critics as one of the best albums of the decade, so, needless to say, the pressure for Radiohead to repeat the performance was huge.
Which is what made the rather startling musical change of direction on Kid A so understandable. Rather than further explore the guitar-laden territory covered on OK Computer, (and on The Bends before that), the band virtually removed all guitar from their sound, replacing them instead with analog synths, tape loops, and other curious effects. The music became much less overtly melodic, concentrating instead on complex rhythms and song structures.
Despite all this, there are still quite a few tracks on Kid A that work well on the guitar. What follows is guitar tablature, exclusive to Guitar at About, of each track from Radiohead's Kid A (with the exception of "Treefingers", an ambience music track that realistically can't be played on guitar).
