Price Paid for Yamaha Pacifica 012 : £125 (approx $198 USD)
Description of Yamaha Pacifica 012 : Double cutaway, humbucker and two single coils, maple neck and rosewood fretboard
Tone of Yamaha Pacifica 012 :
Comments: Because of the humbucker option, the guitar can sound quite beefy when it wants. But the single coils work best and it sounds pretty good, not strat standard but not too far off to be honest. I use a Gelf practise amp and it sounds great, sustain isnt brilliant but what do you expect for a beginners guitar? The trem ain't bad either. Great for learning on, but you'll want to update it when you get decent.
Quality of Yamaha Pacifica 012 :
Comments about Yamaha Pacifica 012 : The maple neck give it a very fast action. As with all Yamaha instruments it's built to last, feels robust and well made. Allthough a little heavy perhaps, you know its not going to snap on you.
Overall Opinions of Yamaha Pacifica 012 :
Pros: On value for money this guitar's great. It's a well built, good sounding instrument that's served me well. It stays in tune pretty well even after yanking the trem around, and the maple neck makes it easy to break from rhythm into lead without much of a problem. The guitar looks good too, it has a lot of colour options which is great, and of course you can't forget the price. Just £125 including VAT. It's for learning on, and I can't think of anything guitar better for that job.
Cons: It's not a guitar that you won't need to update. You'll find that extra tonal qualities that seperate a good from great guitar lacking in this instrument. The trem is pretty poor too, and I couldn't be arsed with it. I took it out. The connection for the lead is placed round the side of the guitar, so sometimes it can be knocked out. The only other thing I can knock this guitar for is the bottom three strings, they tend to buzz. If you raise the action it becomes too high, if you lower it they buzz more. You can't place anything on the pacifica in particular, and it certainly has little difference to the big sister, the 112. And you'll have to expect to pay a lot more for a guitar you'll notice a major improvement on, my Epiphone Black Beauty Les Paul puts it to shame. But what do you expect from a beginners guitar?
