Wechter Pathfinder
[Submit a Review]

Price Paid: $1400.00 USD
Description: Acoustic with pickup. The Pathfinder is an interesting breed, built by Wechter, a small manufacturer in Michigan, featuring a double cutaway and can be made out of a variety of different tonewoods (all solid). Dealers can easily custom order woods for you. I played a spruce top, maple back and sides. If you can get over the unique punk rock look of this guitar, it is a beautiful instrument. Personally, that is the biggest pitfall for me...acoustics should be plain jane.
Tone:
Comments: The Wechter has decent tone, but very good playability, that is the biggest bonus. This guitar was designed to be plugged in, and to be hammered on. Decent acoustic properties, not real booming on the low end, but lows and highs well balanced.
Quality:
Comments: Beautifully designed guitar. Love the little touches like the unique headstock and wood binding along the edges, vs plastic. Offset fretmarker dots on the fingerboard gives another unique touch. Again, the unique cutaway design isn't for everyone, but if you find yourself reaching for the high frets often, this guitar allows great access.
Overall:
Pros: Unique double cutaway design, brilliant craftmanship, nice extras from a small manufacturer you won't find on guitars made by larger companies. Easily customized by an authorized dealer. Nice Fishman Electronics make this sound great plugged in.
Cons: Unique double cutaway design. Tone doesn't lend itself to be an acoustic only guitar, but definitely can be used unplugged.
