Description: Piezo Pickup in bridge, Sitika Spruce top, Mahogany Neck, Cutaway, Rosewood bridge and fingerboard, sealed Ping tuners.
Tone:
Comments: With brand new stings this guitar sounds nice and bright. It is very nice and punchy. Great for fingerpicking. It has a Piezo pickup that tends to sound too much on the treble side even though it comes with a 3 band EQ. You also have to be carefull not to hit the top of the guitar when on stage and plugged in or you will get some pops but that is expected form a piezo. some of the problem may be my not playing through an acoustic amp. Right now all i have is a Fender Hot Rod Deville 2x12.
Quality:
Comments: Craftmenship was pretty good. The main prblems with Ovations is that the top moves with humidity changes but the back and sides do not. Theirfore i have 2 very small cracks at the top and bottom of my bridge. This does not seem to have any effect on the sound and i am not sure if it is a finish crack or if it goes all the way to the wood. Some glue joints were a little sloppy in parts but overall good job. finish was flawless. The Neck on this guitar is HUGE, but i like them that way. you hvae to decide for yourself on that one. Frets are immaculately installed and nicely polished. The only problem i had with this guitar was the initial setup. Strings were rather high for Ovation. Then i figured out that their are 2 shims under the brige. took one out and it played like a dream. Neck relief was set up well too but i had to make some slight adjustments.
Overall:
Pros: Plays good, looks good, sounds good
Cons: Large Neck(for some), Some sloppy glue joints, Top Cracks, And dont get this guitar in Black unless you enjoy polishing it every time you pick it up or if you dont mind a dirty finish
