Guitar Reviews
Martin D-15
[Submit a Review]

Price Paid: $535 USD
Description: Acoustic. Built in USA. Solid mahogany body and sides. The cheapest solid body Martin I could buy. No extras, not even a set up.
Tone:
Comments: Since it's mahogany, it has a smokier tone than a spruce top guitar, but that's one of the reasons I fell in love with it. The smoky tone also makes it sound unique, and when it's paired with a spruce top guitar, the combination is really thrilling. It's also loud. I love that.
Quality:
Comments: It's not fancy looking. It's plain as the day is long, but that's part of it's beauty, for me. The only complaint that I have is that I bumped it against my coffee table (I play a lot while I watch TV, which pisses my wife off), and it dented the side (it may even be cracked, but I don't want to think about that). In other words, it's a more fragile guitar than I realized, but I still love it.
Overall:
Pros: For the money, and I had to look around for the price on this guitar, I couldn't have gotten a better guitar. The lowest I saw it priced was $650 on clearance a month or so ago in Utah. I bought this at Wildwood Music in Coshocton, OH (they do mail orders, carry hundreds and hundreds of acoustic guitars--it's the coolest place in the world--and deeply discount everything because they have no overhead; they don't deal in plastic, though, and that could be a problem for someone ordering over the phone).
Cons: You'd have to have a pick up installed, or use a sound hole pick up for this guitar. Like I said, it's loud, but it would need some kind of amplification for live playing.
