Guild Starfire III
[Submit a Review]

Price Paid: $1250 USD
Description: Electric hollowbody. Made in USA. Hollow body thinline, single florentine cutaway, mahogany body, one piece mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard, 24-3/4 inch scale length, two guild humberkers, Bigsby trem/tailpiece. Hardshell case.
Tone:
Comments: One reason I picked this instrument is the wide range of styles it's suitable to. You can get a nice twang for rockabilly and country, clear ringing tones for jazz (not that I play jazz), and all levels of distoration for various styles of rock. It can deliver a nice vintage sound for blues, too.
Quality:
Comments: Main reason I picked the Guild over a Gretch or other archtops is that for the price, the quality just can't be beat. Good wood with a very nice grain and quality parts throughout.
Overall:
Pros: I think the Guild archtops compare favorably to Gibsons' and at about half the price. Gretch makes several guitars that are just stunning to look at, but to get the level of quality I got with my Guild, I would have had to pay at least $600 more and many Gretches go for more than that.
Cons: None, really.
