Price Paid: $450 USD (used)
Description: Made in USA. 2 P-90 pickups, 1995, Solid Mahagony body and set neck, Rosewood fretboard, Double Cutaway, Tune-O-Matic bridge, aged vintage style tuners, vintage cherry color, 22 frets, 2 vol & 2 tone controls, dot neck inlays.
Tone:
Comments: This axe is pure joy to play and hear. One can get excellent, creamy, chimey single coil tone for the blues. It has a clear, cutting tone for rock but doesn't drive an amps front end as hard as a humbucker. Through my Mesa Subway Rocket the guitar has a Holdsworth quality that is hard to miss. The tone is never harsh, thin or trebly, I think due to the sweetness of mahagony. I have many amps and it sounds good through them all. It also has a rich, beautiful, clean jazz tone. I bought it because a friend got one and I played some chord melody jazz on it through a Fender Twin and was blown away by how full, sweet, and warm the tone was. My personal favorite amp to play it through is my Magnatone Maestro 150 that has a 15"" Jensen speaker. It's a very hard guitar to put back on the stand. I also play it through a Subway Blues, a variety of vintage Gibsons, a vintage Danelectro, a vintage Airline, and a variety of other Magnatones.
Quality:
Comments: The guitar is a fine example of the craftsmanship that has been demonstrated for so many decades by the great guitar makers at Gibson. I can say nothing bad about the instruments' quality or playability. It almost plays itself. I have owned many guitars through the years and this one is in the top 5 for me. I simply love it and always look forward to playing it.
Overall:
Pros: For the money I paid, it is unbeatable. The guitar rates right up with PRS (I've owned several), all other LP's, blows away any strat I've played (don't get mad), and holds its own against any of the plethora of pricey, albeit well made guitars that are out there. It also came in a killer, plush, gorgeous LP case with a satin coth cover inside for the guitar.
Cons: pickups are noisy when close to a source of EMI, such as a TV or computer monitor.
