The First Noel Performance Tips

This list of The First Noel performance tips is to be used in conjunction with the The First Noel lyrics and tab page. If you're looking for additional Christmas lyrics and tabs, check the Christmas Tab and Lyrics master list.

Playing The First Noel should be a snap for most guitarists. Just a couple of points to keep in mind:

  • The First Noel is in waltz (3/4) time. This means, you should strum three times per bar. In most cases, this means strumming three times per chord.
  • In the end of second line of the song ("in fields as they lay"), the Cmajor chord should be strummed twice, followed by Dmajor chord strummed once. This is followed by the Gmajor chord, strummed three times (then again three times at the beginning of the next line). This same chord pattern is repeated throughout the song, so practice mastering it.
  • The Bminor chord is used extensively throughout The First Noel, so you'll need to practice moving to it, and from it. Try and anticipate the change to Bminor, and be ready for it when you need to make the switch.
