The Christmas Song Performance Tips

The trick to playing The Christmas Song will be entirely in the large number of somewhat unusual chords, and in your ability to play them quickly and smoothly. The strumming for The Christmas Song shouldn't be difficult - simply strum once per beat, entirely with downstrums. The problem is, often chords last for only one beat.

Below are the chords you'll need to learn (and memorize, in order to play them this quickly). As you can see, there are a lot of chords, many of which you might not be familiar with. If you've been playing guitar for a while, then give this your best shot - it's a terrific Christmas carol, and sounds really nice when played well!

Note that for several of chords listed below, there are two different shapes for the same chord. This is because, at certain points during the song, it will be much easier to play, for example, a Gbmaj7 chord on the second fret than it will be to play a Gbmaj7 chord in the ninth fret.
