Von writes to ask:
Did Dave Davies play that classic solo in The Kinks song "All Day and All of the Night"?
Well, I did a little digging, and it turns out there is some controversy over who played this guitar solo. Seems Jimmy Page has tried to take credit for it. The Kinks' Ray Davies begs to differ. Read this article for more info.
For those interested in playing the solo, and the great riffs of the song themselves, check out the All Day And All of the Night Lyrics and Tab.

why would anyone want to claim that guitar solo? It was awful, it indicated the efforts who wanted to play guitar but had no sense of phrase or anything. One of the worst guitar solos of all time.
That’s what made the solo great, it didn’t sound like every other guitar solo in the world, and it had a recklessness that was fantastic.
Neil Young has that solo attitude too. I like it.
It was 1964. Page was still in his developmental stages but was already considered the best session guitarist in England.
I think exactly the opposite. It’s one of the greatest solos of all time. You have to put it into context. I was 14 at the time and I’d heard nothing like it before. This was at a time when my parents were listening to the likes of Perry Como and Frank Sinatra. I was rooted to the spot with a sense of awe. I still get a shiver down my spine when I hear it today. It speaks of youthful arrogance, insoucience and rebellion. I remember thinking; ‘Yes I want some of that. I want it played at my funeral.
@ 4: John James: You nailed it, man! And . . . even if Page played it on the original recording, it was certainly Dave who played it innumerable times in live Kinks shows! And . . .what possible difference could it make FIFTY YEARS LATER?
