Rolling Stone magazine has put together a list of what they consider to be the "Top 100 Guitar Songs of All Time". It is, as you could expect, a pretty arbitrary list, but there undeniably some great guitar riffs found in the list.
In the interest of getting your feedback, I've included the top five songs from the Rolling Stone list below. Which of these is your favorite? I'm personally leaning towards "Crossroads".

Wonder what they based the results on. A little explanation would have been nice, don’t you think?
I can greatly appreciate Chuck Berry’s contribution to guitar with his signature riffs and Clapton able to make the guitar cry only Jimi Hendrix could bring it to orgasm. Then again George Harrison was never given the credit he deserved,it was a tough decision to make but Jimi gets my vote for raising the bar past the stratosphere.
Unless you linked to an earlier version of the top 100 list, there is a mistake here. While My Guitar Gently Weeps is number 7 on the Rolling Stone list, and the Kinks are in the top 5.
Not that I agree with the article (on many of their picks, actually), but I thought I should perhaps clear that up.
would like to have seen chris cornell and dave grohl on that list
Without Chuck Berry, Kieth Richards wouldn’t be on the list. Personally I think Sympathy for the Devil is his best solo (most memorable).
Stairway to Heaven is by far one of if not the greatest song of all time. Come on guy, pick the right ones
Why do these lists always need to be directed toward “classic rock”? People kept playing guitars after the 70’s ended. Van Halen is conspicuously absent and undeniably worthy. That being said, there are some phenomenal kids who were weaned on the songs you mentioned and have taken it to a higher level. Just sayin’.
When you have a pickin’ style named after you, you must be pretty good, so Merle Travis needs to be on the list. And, of course, James Burton, the guitar players guitar player. But then again, those country pickers are always overlooked.
