Michael Jackson's Guitarists
Friday June 26, 2009
Within an hour of hearing the news of Michael Jackson's death, I was inundated with a dozen press releases from folks in the industry, all vying to be the first to "express their deepest regret about the loss of one of the greatest talents in the music business". Ugh.
Not to be outdone, I present you with a brief article I wrote a few years ago on Michael Jackson's guitarists.

Comments
there is no doubt, about the talents of them both. you hardly hear anything of ‘jackos’ guitarist
I don’t understand why I do not see Steve Lukather in this article. He is definitely the most talented guitarist ever worked with Michael. All the guitars on Thriller are Steve’s, excepting Eddie’s solo.
You’re absolutely right. An oversight on my part… Steve Lukather is a monster.
I don’t think most people realize the musical talents that michael worked with, not just guitarists, but musicians in general. His biggest though clearly has to be having Van Halen on “Beat it.” From Michael’s standpoint, that was an amazing move. It was at the height of Van Halen’s peak! I’ll admit when I saw Slash was playing with him though, I got sort of pissed, but now, years later, when I can appreciate it more.
Any idea who the female Lead Guitarist is in his rehersal video released today 7/2?
jennifer batten is one of his female guitarists, i believe. she might have been in the dirty diana video.
I caught a few seconds of that rehearsal video… from the quick glance I got, I’m pretty sure that wasn’t Jennifer Batten. Not exactly sure who it was, but I’ll look around and see what I find.
Found her… Orianthi. Here’s a YouTube video of Orianthi at NAMM.
I beg to differ on the comment about Thriller. David Williams played on most of that album if not all of it. He had been Michael’s rhythm guitarist for over 30 years. Its his signature riffs that are heard on Billie Jean.
He definitely cared about guitar sounds in his music..He knows music, that’s it
