Rolling Stone Names Top Albums of 2008

Thursday January 1, 2009
If you head over to the Rolling Stone site right now, you'll find their list of the Top 50 Albums of 2008. On the site, you'll find a full write-up for each pick, but here is a sneak peak of the top ten albums of the year:
  1. TV on the Radio "Dear Science"
  2. Bob Dylan "Tell Tale Signs"
  3. Lil Wayne "Tha Carter III"
  4. My Morning Jacket "Evil Urges"
  5. John Mellencamp "Life, Death, Love and Freedom"
  6. Santogold "Santogold"
  7. Coldplay "Viva la Vida"
  8. Beck "Modern Guilt"
  9. Metallica "Death Magnetic"
  10. Vampire Weekend "Vampire Weekend"
A pretty solid list, and a good reminder about all the great music that 2008 brought us! My personal favorites from the list include the Dylan bootleg album, the surprising My Morning Jacket album, and the infectious Vampire Weekend release.

I’m not sure if cold play deserves that spot there as there was much controversy and proof that he stole the song somewhere else.

The song itself was great.

ROlling Stone India gave Evil Urges only 2.5 stars… odd that its still on this list. Also, I believe the Metallica album is called Death Magnetic.

Aha… thanks for the catch Abhimanyu. I’ve corrected the Metallica album name. Dunno what RS India was thinking… “Evil Urges” is fantastic to these ears.

Is the top 10 albums no one cares about? As usual Rolling Stone has completely missed the mark.

As usual, another lame list from RS. What about Girl Talk, Adele, DC for Cutie, Ani DiFranco, Apes and Androids, Elbow, Fleet Foxes, Flight of the Concords, Glasvegas, James Hunter, Nomo, The Bug… I could go on. RS went with the safe calls that everyone who reads RS has heard of. Old worn jeans. Blah, blah, blah…

I just read the larger list. Brian Wilson made the Top 20. That says it all.

(7) James says:

Who reads rolling stone anyway? Not anyone I know that has any idea about good music. Rolling stone should stick to what they know something about, The top 50 fashion models or the top 50 advertisements of 2008!
